The Australian government have just announced another economic stimulus package to support employers and employees during the Covid-19 crisis. The JobKeeper payment is a Federal Government wage subsidy for businesses to pay workers.

 Information for Employers

Businesses impacted by the coronavirus will be able to access the JobKeeper subsidy to continue paying their employees. Eligible employers will be able to claim a payment of $1,500 per fortnight for each eligible employee from 30 March 2020, for a maximum of 6 months. Not-for-profit entities and self-employed individuals that meet the turnover tests are eligible to apply for JobKeeper payments. Information for Employees

Eligible employers will notify employees if they are to receive the JobKeeper payment. Eligible employees will receive a minimum of $1,500 per fortnight, before tax. It is the employer’s discretion if superannuation will be paid on any additional wage paid because of JobKeeper payments. Australian citizens, the holders of a permanent visa, a Protected Special Category Visa Holder, a non-protected Special Category Visa Holder (residing in Australia for at least 10 years) or a Special Category (Subclass 444) Visa holder are all eligible for this payment. Full time, part time and casual (with the employer for the previous 12 months) employees, including stood down employees will be eligible for the JobKeeper payment.
