Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants – South East Queensland Rainfall and Flooding

Businesses – Grants of up to $50,000 are available for affected small businesses following the South East Queensland Rainfall and Flooding to hire or purchase equipment and materials, clean up, remove debris, replace or repair damaged infrastructure and stock and other costs associated with the recovery process.

The maximum grant amount is $50,000 and is available through two applications:

  • An initial amount of up to $15,000 is available to support an initial claim. Evidence of the direct damage such as photographs, quotations, tax invoices and official receipts is required.
  • A subsequent amount of up to $35,000 is available to support subsequent claims for which full evidence of payment is required.

Primary Producer – Grants of up to $75,000 are available for affected producers following South East Queensland Rainfall and Flooding to hire or purchase equipment and materials, clean up, remove debris, replace fencing and other costs associated with the recovery process. Producers should take photographs of the direct damage to accompany their application.

Applicants need to show they are an eligible primary producer, within the declared disaster area and demonstrate they have suffered direct impact from the disaster. Read below and the guidelines for more information.

The maximum grant amount is $75,000 and is available through two applications:

  • An initial amount of up to $15,000 is available to support an initial claim. Evidence of the direct damage such as photographs, quotations, tax invoices and official receipts is required.
  • A subsequent amount of up to $60,000 is available to support subsequent claims for which full evidence of payment is required.

Non-Profit Organisations – Grants of up to $50,000 are available for affected non-profit organisations following South East Queensland Rainfall and Flooding to hire or purchase equipment and materials, clean up, remove debris, repair or replace damaged infrastructure or goods and other costs associated with the recovery process. Organisations should take photographs of the direct damage to accompany their application.

Disaster Assistance (Essential Working Capital) Loan

Disaster Assistance (Essential Working Capital) Loans of up to $100,000 are available to assist primary producers, small businesses and non-profit organisations with essential working capital for expenses.

Concessional loans are provided to assist you with essential working capital for expenses such as:

  • paying salaries or wages
  • paying creditors
  • paying rent or rates
  • buying goods, including for example, fuel essential to carry-on the small business.

The Minister for Fire and Emergency Services has activated disaster assistance for the South East Queensland Rainfall and Flooding, 22 February – 7 March 2022.

To be eligible for assistance your business must be located in one of the defined disaster areas:

Disaster Assistance Loan

Disaster Assistance Loans of up to $250,000 are available to assist primary producers, small businesses and non-profit organisations with re-establishing normal operations.

Concessional loans are provided to assist you to re-establish the normal operations of your small business by covering costs such as:

  • repairing or replacing damaged plant and equipment
  • repairing or replacing buildings
  • supplying stock for up to one month to replace lost stock and maintain liquidity of the business
  • meeting carry-on requirements including:
    • sustenance
    • paying rent and rates.

Federal Government Disaster Assistance – Disaster Recovery Allowance

Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) is a short term payment to help you if a disaster directly affects your income.

You can get it for a maximum of 13 weeks. We’ll pay this from the date you started losing income as a direct result of the South East Queensland floods starting in February 2022. Residence rules apply for this payment and you must reside in one of the listed Local Government Areas to be eligible.

DRA is a taxable payment. You can ask us to withhold voluntary tax deductions from your payments. Read about paying tax on a Centrelink payment.

To get it, you must meet all of the following.

You:

  • were 16 or older at the time of the floods
  • are an Australian resident or hold an eligible visa
  • work or live in an affected Local Government Area (LGA)
  • lost income as a direct result of the storms and floods
  • earn less than the average Australian weekly income in the weeks after you had this income loss.

If you’re part of a couple, you can both claim this payment. You and your partner will need to make separate claims.

You cannot get the DRA if you get any of the following payments:

Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment

 

A lump sum payment to help you following the South East Queensland floods in February 2022.

The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment can help if you’ve been significantly affected by a disaster. It’s a lump sum payment to help you if you’re in a Local Government Area that’s been declared for a disaster.To get it, you or a dependent child you’re a principal carer for must meet all of the following:

  • you’re an Australian resident or hold an eligible visa
  • you meet Local Government Area (LGA) rules
  • you’re claiming this payment for the South East QLD Floods, February 2022 for the first time.

You must be 16 years or older at the time of the floods or getting a social security payment.

You or a dependent child you’re a principal carer for, must have been seriously affected by the storms and floods. For example:

  • you were seriously injured
  • you’re the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing
  • the flood caused major damage to your home.

If you’re part of a couple, you can both claim this payment. You and your partner will need to make separate claims.

Brisbane City Council

Recently announced they will provide a $5000 payment to community organisations who are operating from or located within a Council leased or licensed facility that have been impacted by the recent severe weather event. For details visit
